"THE BUS" DRIVES OFF IN STYLE

It is an end. It's been an incredible ride. I came back to win a championship, and now I have to bid farewell. It's totally, totally a blessing. I'm probably the luckiest football player who ever played.

　昨日、シアトル・シーホークスを21対10で下して、スーパーボウル制覇を果たしたピッツバーグ・スティーラーズ。名ＲＢのジェローム・ベティス jerome bettis は試合後、引退を表明しました。

昨日の試合では14回のキャリーで43ヤードに留まったベティス。タッチダウンもありませんでしたが、そんなことは関係ありません。“ザ・バス”の愛称で親しまれるベティスが生まれ故郷のデトロイトで、栄冠を手にして有終の美を飾ったのですから！*^-^*


　昨シーズンのＡＦＣ決勝戦では、ニューイングランド・ペイトリオッツに敗れ、涙をのんだスティーラーズ。その試合で３つのインターセプトを喫したＱＢベン・ロスリスバーガー ben roethlisberger は責任を感じ、ベティスに約束をしました。

I promised Jerome last year that I would get him here -- I didn't promise him I would win it. Then after the Cincinnati game, I promised him I would get him four game balls.

“オレは昨年、ベティスに約束した。スーパーボウルに連れていくと。その時は勝つとまでは約束しなかったけど、ベンガルズ戦の後、４つのゲームボールをプレゼントすると約束したんだ”

I'm just glad I could fulfill the promises that I made to him.

“彼への約束を果たせたことが、とにかく嬉しい”


　スティーラーズはチーム一丸となって、ベティスのためにスーパーボウル優勝を目指していました。ちょっぴり（？）口の悪いＬＢジョーイ・ポーター joey porter も、いつもなら自分が真っ先にフィールドに出るのに、昨日はベティスに先にフィールドに出てほしいと言ったとか。

He said, "You lead us out there," so I did. They gave me a moment I'll never forget.

“ポーターに‘オレたちをフィールドへ導いてくれ’と言われたからそうした。決して忘れられない瞬間だったよ”

目立ちたがり屋のポーターですが…

It was Jerome's day. It was his time to shine in his hometown.

“今日はジェロームの日だった。彼に故郷で輝いてほしかった”

とコメントしていました。


　スーパーボウルＭＶＰを獲得したＷＲハインズ・ウォード hines ward も、試合後のインタビューでは、自分のことよりベティスのことばかり話していました。

He's touched every player in that locker room in some form. For him to come so close and fall short of the Super Bowl last year, I took it very hard. Having him come back, winning the Super Bowl, from where it all started, it's a fairy tale come true for him.

“ベティスはロッカールームで選手全員の心に触れた。昨年はあと一歩というところでスーパーボウルを逃し、彼の気持ちを思うとつらかった。現役を続行して、スーパーボウル制覇できるなんて、今までの道のりを考えると、まるで彼のために実現したおとぎ話だね”


　デトロイトを終着駅とした“ザ・バス”。13年間、本当にお疲れ様でした！(^-^)//""パチパチ　家族との時間をゆっくり過ごした後、たまには解説者として『スポーツセンターＵＳＡ』にも顔を出して、はじけるような笑顔をまた見せてほしいですね☆


　一方“ビッグ・ベン”ことロスリスバーガーは、ご自慢のヒゲを今日、デービッド・レターマン david letterman の“レイトショー late show ”という番組内で剃るそうです。昨年11月28日のマンデーナイトフットボール、インディアナポリス・コルツに敗れた試合以降伸ばし続けていました。プロ２年目にしてスーパーボウルを制し、最年少ＱＢとなったロスリスバーガー。23歳らしく若々しい顔に戻るのか、楽しみです。o(^o^)o
